If your house is on fire, and you can only save one book, which book is it and why?

I would save my Bible if that were the only book that I could save. It is the most precious book that I own.

I think I'd go down with the house; I can't bear to be parted from ANY of my books! If I were hauled out kicking and screaming, I'd have to have my copies of the original paperback printing of Pamela Dean's The Secret Country trilogy with me (shelved together, so I count them as one!). The much-beloved, oft-reread series made me fall in love with reading.

I think both of you are rediculous. The bible for one is the most printed book in the world; The only book printed as much or more is the phone book. You could find a copy of that anywhere. As for dying with your books, you need to think about the question and choose one book or none at all, and the fact that Fahrenheit 451 is the featured discussion book on this page, I feel that the question is just playing on the premise of Fahrenheit 451.

What the book is all about is the fact that if your house was on fire you would save yourself first, as a person who could take the knowledge of the books that they have read, and change society back to a more open minded literary culture.
